National holidays quite often are a tad on the ridiculous side, not to mention just another thing to keep the Capitalism beast fed and watered. Every March 17th, Americans all pretend to be of Irish descent for the day, in most cases allowing it to be an excuse to lift a frothy beverage. There is something rather touching about St. Patrick's Day, however. It's a national tip-of-the-hat to a civilization that has given so much to the world.
Last year, I posted this video of Maynard Ferguson performing the classic Irish folk song "Danny Boy". It's good enough for a second showing (besides, I have to get to the grocery store to pick up my corned beef and cabbage).
