I'm about halfway through reading Seth Godin's latest book, Poke the Box. It is, of course, filled with Godinny goodness, but one thing I just read this morning is a really great point that I wanted to share.
On page 41, Godin states: "If you had a chance to do a TED talk, what would it be about? What have you discovered, what do you know, what can you teach? You should do one. Even if you don't do one, you should be prepared to do one. That's your opportunity - to approach your work in a way that generates unique learning and interactions that are worth sharing."
If you are not familiar with TED or TEDx, google it and start watching yesterday.
Previously, I wrote two articles on this topic: one called Did You Know That You Are Already An Expert? and a second called Everyone Has Something To Contribute Online. We are now in an era where anyone with access to the internet can share their knowledge and teach the world something unique. The more people we get blogging, collaborating on projects, crowdsourcing, and innovating, the better.
So what would your TED talk be about? Mine would be about the 21st Century Artist. I'm still coming up with more along that front - article number two in the series is in draft. I'm definitely reinventing my music programs in that image - one school year at a time.
