Ubi Cartias (2009) Grade 2

$20.00

Maurice Durufle was a 20th century French composer best known for his Requiem. He was a pianist and organist and wrote many unusual and beautiful pieces for the choral repertoire. His setting of the latin text "Ubi Caritas" is a brief, yet lush piece with tight contemporary harmonies and many time signatures, including 1/4. 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/8, and 6/8. It is an excellent piece for young string students to work on ensemble timing, balance, and intonation. This setting for string ensemble includes a rehearsal piano part and is note-for-note the original Durufle with the exception of a few doublings of the bass note for the basses. Bowings and bow lifts are added to assist younger players with proper phrasing.
